I have been doing this for a long time. In High School, I worked at Contempo Casuals. I also was lucky enough to be an extra at Bloomingdales the week before Christmas (gift wrap) and the week after (returns). I had older cousins that worked there and when I got there every year my temp job was waiting for me. I got out of the retail game for a bit and became quite a cook. I opened a very successful catering business and then a bakery/cafe that was all about organic and handmade way back in 1999. It was really a lens into the future and I didn't know it. We had hand-lettered signs, carried letterpress cards, and lots of small kitschy gifts. It was really before its time and it was super popular. We wrapped all of our sandwiches in white paper with a big satin ribbon on it so it looked like we served you a present. The gifts were so popular so when the spot a couple of doors down opened as a possible retail location I jumped on it. For two years I had both. One business that I needed to be at by 4 am and another that closed at 6:30 pm. I had three small kids at the time so something had to give. We sold the bakery and to this day it still pains my heart. Daisy's moved to the location it is now, a much bigger spot in the center of downtown. Our little town is unique as 95% of the businesses are locally owned. There are no chains except for maybe a Subway. Even the movie theater is locally owned. We live above the shop. That happened in 2018 when be bought the building. Now we are finishing up our new classroom and guest house. I was a huge sesame street fan with I was really little and I loved Mr.Hooper so much. Now here I am just a little shopkeeper living above my shop, life comes full circle.
